A Cubic Foot of Assorted Tartan Scraps!

Yes, we know that tartan is not normally measured in cubic feet! But in this case, we’ve taking a couple years worth of kiltmaking tartan scraps, and stuffed them randomly into 12x12x12 boxes!

Each box is random and unique. Most scraps are 6 inches wide or wider. A few are smaller, but most are pretty substantial pieces. Several are nearly full yard pieces. Tartan weights will vary from spring weight (7-8oz) all the way to heavy weight (15-16oz), but most of the tartan scrap is our Homespun poly/wool blend (10-11oz).

How many yards is a pound of tartan? Going with an average of 10-11 ounces per linear yard, a pound of tartan is about 1 1/2 yards. So if you Frankenstein a 12 pound box of scraps together, you’ll have approximately 18 yards of tartan! That’s a lot! 

Our Homespun tartan sells for $35 per yard. So 18 yards would cost $630. Priced at $10 per pound, a box of 18 yards of scraps will only cost $120! A $500 savings!
