Epona and Celtic Horses
The Celtic goddess Epona protected horses, ponies, donkeys, and mules. Throughout the ancient world, horses acted as an important mode of transportation before the invention of cars. Ancient Chinese nobles often buried their emperors with horses and chariots. You can imagine horses were highly esteemed in much the way cars are today. With that in mind, it’s no wonder the goddess Epona was so important in Gallo-Roman religion. People often placed images of Epona in their stables. The British Museum holds a Roman bronze statue of Epona flanked by a mare and stallion that was found in England. Our horse bracelet is a great way to pay homage to an important animal from ancient history, and to your Celtic ancestors.
