The Khaki Military-Style Balmoral harkens back to a proud tradition of service and bravery. We drew our style inspiration from the Khaki Balmoral, a form of military headdress. It was introduced in 1915 for wear by Scottish infantrymen serving in the trenches of the Western Front during World War I. To this day, certain British and Canadian military units, as well as the Royal Regiment of Scotland, continue to wear this style of “bonnet,” as it’s sometimes called. “Khaki” refers to this hat’s traditional tan color, although it can range in color from light brown to olive drab. The Celtic Croft take on the classic is toward a green.

Looks like the genuine article. Please DO heed the warnings to go one size up. I normally find 7 3/8 to be exactly MY size, but in this case ordered a 7 1/2 and am glad I did.
The only problem is that when I’m wearing it I find myself looking over my shoulder to make certain that the RSM does not catch me being “idle”.

I bought one of these last year. I problem is with the sizing. If I had bought a large, it would have been 5/8″ too large. I bought a medium and it is 1/8″ too small. Unfortunately the glengarry is sized the same way. No use in investing in one.

I like it, the fit is good and I like the colour and the nice warm thick wool. The crown diameter is a bit small for my taste but that is a personal preference. This size of crown looks more like a military style than civilian to my eye.

Besides being American born with Scottish roots, I’m a big WWI, WWII buff and have always wanted a Scotch bonnet of that style/era. This bonnet is extremely nice, and well fitted. I really like the color and of course will wear it on a regular basis with regular attire. It would also do well for a 1750s Rogers Rangers bonnet. Thanks again for the great service and product!

At the time I ordered the khaki Balmoral tam, my correct size was not in stock. Celtic Croft notified me by email of the out of stock item. I didn’t want to wait for it to be back in stock so they worked with me through email to find a suitable replacement. I chose the handspun tam in saffron color. They adjusted the price difference and shipped it promptly. It turned out to be great. I love the color, quality and fit. Thanks!
