Description
Buffalo Plaid Premium Wool-Free Tartan Fly Plaid
Once associated with Paul Bunyan and lumberjacks, it became the unofficial plaid of Christmas. Although the name buffalo plaid might trick you into thinking it’s an American invention, do a little digging and you’ll find that the buffalo plaid is actually the MacGregor Red and Black pattern. In Scotland, the pattern is associated with the folk hero Rob Roy MacGregor and the pattern there is often referred to simply as the Rob Roy.
A poly/Viscose tartan fly plaid recommended as an accessory to match our poly/viscose Casual Kilts, Formal Kilts, and Phillabegs. As you can see from the picture, it is brooched at the shoulder and allowed to drape down the back. In general you want to choose a fly plaid made from the same fabric as your kilt.

The standard finish is about an inch of fringe on each cut end of the fabric — just enough to keep it from fraying. We fringe all 4 sides of these fly plaids, because weavers weave poly/viscose tartans without finished selvage edges. Knotted finish is also available.
Your choice of fringed or knotted finish. Choose standard size (36″ x 58″) or XL (54″ x 58″).
Note — Sizes are approximate, and can vary by an inch or two.
What is Poly/Viscose?
Poly is short for polyester, which is a durable, smooth, synthetic fiber. You may know viscose by the name rayon. Workers make rayon from cellulose fiber, which comes from wood and plants. In this case, the viscose is made to imitate wool. These two fibers blend together to create a durable, non-felting, non-pilling, hypoallergenic fabric that retains the same wonderful, natural aesthetics of wool.
