Celtic Stag Pendant
Our stag talismanic pendant necklace comes in bronze or sterling silver, with an 18 inch chain. Pendant size: 2 x 1.75 in (50 x 44 mm)
Wild and untamable, the Stag was a symbol of abundance, prosperity, virility and male sexuality. The stag represented the masculine side of the balance of nature and was the totem animal for the antlered deity Cernunnos (The Honored One – or Lord of all Stags), ruler and protector of water, animals and nature.

The Stag in Celtic Culture
In early history, the Scots and Irish saw the stag (male deer) as a powerfully strong animal. In order to become a leader, one had to hunt and kill a stag using only a knife made from a stag’s horn. Candidates completed this rite in order to gain the wisdom and strength necessary to lead.
Celts have been depicting the stag on their artifacts since as early as the 4th Century BCE. To this day, traditional Scottish dancers often imitate stags by stretching out their arms over their heads like antlers, and forming horns with their fingers. This buckle exemplifies the importance of the stag in Scottish culture. By wearing it, one pays homage to long standing Celtic tradition.
