Faux Blackwood Sgian Dubh
Stylish and affordable! This faux blackwood sgian dubh has a good quality plastic handle instead of real wood, including the decorative faux bone top. This sgian dubh has a good quality stainless steel blade, and each one comes with a real leather, Celtic embossed sheath. A good knife for a good price. It looks so good that we actually have to be really careful to make sure we are handling the correct sgian dubh because it looks so similar to the real blackwood sgian dubh ($119!) that we also have in stock sometimes.

What is Blackwood?
Genuine blackwood today is rare and expensive. African Blackwood was imported and used in Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. It is a very hard, dense, and stable hardwood, prized for its use in making musical instruments (like bagpipes) and knife and sword handles. Blackwood is easy to confuse with ebony wood, but is technically in the Rosewood genus.

Clan Crest Sgian Dubhs
Scots make our Clan Crest Sgian Brew in Glasgow. They fit into your hose, and don’t fall out, like some other sgian brews. Our Clan Crest Stag Handle Sgian Dubh has a small clan crest badge inlaid into the end of the antler handle. Choose from 6 different stone colors for your Fancy Sgian Dubh. They’re specially made in Scotland. The sheath features a trefoil knot on the tip and an intricate Celtic knot near the opening.
Our Pewter Thistle Clan Crest Sgian Dubh is an upgraded version of our standard clan crest sgian dubh. Scottish crafters make it with higher quality materials than the standard sgian dubh, and they inlay the clan crest into the handle. You also have the choice of 6 colors for the stone, rather than the one color for the standard sgian dubh. Our Pewter Celtic Knot Clan Crest Sgian Dubh features Celtic knot detailing on the handle and sheath. If you’d like an even more useful sgian dubh, check out The Officer Clan Crest Sgian Dubh. It features a corkscrew and bottle opener. Lastly, the Thistle Mount Clan Crest Sgian Dubh features your clan crest and choice of stone color (out of 6 colors). The thistle motif on the sheath tip and the thistle mount around the opening of the sheath set it apart.

(Full disclosure: For me, this item was offer as a gift with purchase of the Highland Boots, Code FBP01, which are great too, btw) This is an item I probably wouldn’t have bought for myself, but it’s a nice, sturdy, and good looking Sgian Dubh perfect for reenactors and just casual wear where carrying such blades are permitted. Alas the MD Renn Fest does not permit, but the MD Irish Festival in November does!

I was pleased that it was a gift with my order. I was expecting something cheap and ugly but the look and quality is very nice and is another part of my Celtic look that is well worth having.

I was very pleased with the quality of this knife. It looks handsome, and is very, very sharp. The leather case is quite good. This is my second Faux Blackwood Sgian Dubh- I needed to replace my first one. Last year, I was hosting a clan tent at the local highland games, and got into a conversation with the host of the neighboring tent. He complained about the poor quality his sgian dubh, and showed it to me. It was just as awful as he described, and looked like a cheap toy. I showed him my Faux Blackwood Sgian Dubh, and offered him a friendship trade. He was delighted to accept. After the event, I looked up the price of his shoddy knife, and discovered that it cost twice what this one does. I would have been embarrassed to actually wear it myself, so I threw it away and ordered a second Faux Blackwood Sgian Dubh.
