Whether you need it for a Renaissance Fair outfit, Highland dress, or for everyday situations like opening a bottle of beer or wine, this utility Sgian Dubh can do it all! Designed as an updated version of the 19th century utility knife, we’ve swapped out the traditional hoof pick to a more practical bottle opener/screwdriver for modern use. With Celtic detailing on the blade, Celtic knot embossing on the leather sheath, and your choice of up to 200 clan and non-clan crests on the làmh (Scottish Gaelic for handle), there’s never been a more practical way to show off your Celtic pride! You’re sure to impress when you pull out your new Sgian Dubh, whatever the occasion.

The first recorded use of this type of modified Sgian Dubh was during the Crimean War of 1853 to 1856. Officers of the Highland Regiments commissioned these tools with corkscrews and hoof picks to help them with day-to-day camp life. A number of variations were seen thereafter up to and during the First World War, but the practice died out thereafter, when the battlefield kilt fell out of use with new forms of modern warfare.

“The Officer” Sgian Dubh is crafted from brass, wood and stainless steel. It is a Sgian Dubh of exceptional quality.

I am very impressed with my new sgian dubh. I knew it was a special order item and ordered it a couple months before I needed it, expecting that it would arrive at the last minute. Lo and behold, I check my order status on April 25th to find that it has shipped. I thought it had just barely shipped out but on the 26th my sgian dubh arrived!

I need to play with the corkscrew and bottle opener/screwdriver things some more to loosen them up, but it looks great!

    Thank you so much!

Well made, very sharp and the corkscrew works just fine. Solid but not too heavy in the hose

I know this was an impulse buy, but I just couldn’t resist the multi-purpose aspect of it. What a delight. Well made, and very useful; not to mention quite the topic when one slips it out to put it use.
