How To Measure for Your Kilt
- Have someone help you. If you bend over even a bit, your measurement will not be correct.
- Most people prefer to wear their canvas kilts at the pants' waist, like a pair of jeans. If this is what you choose, then measure comfortably around your waist where the top of your pants rest. If you prefer the traditional kilt waist, measure your waist size in inches at the navel (belly button).
- Measure around your hips (butt) at the fullest point (usually 6-8 inches below the waist).
- Measure from your waist (kilt waist or pants waist accordingly) to about the middle of the knee.

I ordered this kilt for light outdoor work, field use, and regular casual wear. The quality is quite good for the price point. The pleats are sewn the full length to maintain the crease- appropriate for a cotton garment that will wrinkle easily and not take creases well. Expect to have to iron regularly. The canvas (a big selling point for me) is what I would call mid weight. Its more durable than denim, but not Carhart heavy canvas- again, appropriate material for the purpose. It arrived right at about 4 weeks. Two areas for potential improvement: Use an additional yard or so of material, and make more, smaller pleats, in the 1-1.25 inch range. While the photos are accurate (3.5" pleats), so I knew what to expect, a little bit of effort would result in a better product the pleats also "change direction" with the use of a box pleat centered in the back. 1.5" knife pleats all the way round would create the swing associated with a kilt. Bump the price by $25.... Second, and more importantly- this kilt is a full inch shorter than I ordered it. I measured it to be worn at the trouser waist and mid knee- 19". I measured multiple times. This kilt is 18", and comes to the top of the knee. While it works for me, had i measured for a knee top, it would be far too short. This is a QA/QC issue that should be addressed with the producer/supplier.
