Glen Affric Tartan Fabric by the Yard – A Piece of Scottish History
Own a piece of history with the Glen Affric tartan, Scotland’s oldest known tartan, now faithfully recreated and available by the yard. Discovered preserved in a peat bog during forestry work in the 1980s, this tartan predates clan associations and dates back to the 16th century, during the reign of James V, Mary Queen of Scots, or James VI.
The Scottish Tartans Authority (STA) commissioned scientific dye analysis and carbon dating, confirming the fabric’s remarkable heritage. Using this data, the STA recreated the tartan using shades of red, yellow, green, and brown, matching the original’s weathered peat-stained appearance.
