Emerald Society of the Federal Law Enforcement Agencies (ESFLEA)
The Emerald Society of the Federal Law Enforcement Agencies (ESFLEA) was founded in 1995 in New York City by a group of U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (USINS) Inspectors who shared a common heritage and a commitment to advancing professionalism within their agency. When initial efforts were met with resistance, the founders expanded their vision to create a national fraternal and social organization inclusive of all federal law enforcement agencies.
In 1997, ESFLEA was officially incorporated under Section 402 of New York State Non-Profit Corporation Law and soon recognized as a tax-exempt organization by both the IRS and the New York State Department of Taxation. That same year, ESFLEA earned its charter from the National Conference of Law Enforcement Emerald Societies (NCLEES) as the only nationwide organization representing federal law enforcement and public safety personnel of Irish and Gaelic descent.
