The Great Kilt (féileadh mòr) is the ultimate expression of 18th-century Highland attire—versatile, bold, and steeped in history. Worn wrapped around the waist and draped over the shoulder, secured with a belt, it can be pleated by hand each time you wear it, just as Highlanders did centuries ago. For modern convenience, you can also add Cheater Pleats™, which arrive pre-stitched to save time.

• Homespun Tartan: A 55/45 polyester-wool blend, hand-woven on old-world looms for an authentic rustic look. At 9–10oz, this looser weave fabric feels thick, soft, and historically accurate. Naturally occurring slubs, pulls, and imperfections make each piece truly one of a kind.

• Premium Wool Tartan: Official tartans from Outlander: The Series, woven in Scotland by the same mill that supplied the show. 100% premium wool (12oz), hopsack plain weave, and finished with a natural wash for an authentic 18th-century appearance. Handmade in the USA.

What is a Great Kilt?

The Great Kilt (or féileadh mòr) is the classic, full-length historical Highland garment most people picture when they think of early Scottish dress.

• Traditionally made from double-width tartan fabric (about 54–60 inches wide).

• Consists of 6–10 yards of material, pleated by hand each time it’s worn.

• The extra fabric above the belt can be draped over the shoulder, used as a hood, wrapped as a cloak, or even as a blanket.

• Provides warmth, protection, and a dramatic appearance, making it ideal for reenactments, Renaissance fairs, and traditional Highland events.

• Heavier and bulkier than an Ancient Kilt or Phillabeg, but with unmatched versatility.
