Description
Bodhran Care Cream Leather Conditioner
Protect your bodhran head from splitting or cracking! Most bodhran heads are real leather, usually goat skin, and they need to be cared for like any other good leather product. You need to use a good leather conditioner on a regular basis to keep your bodhran head from getting too dry. It’s especially important for the first couple of years that you own your bodhran. A new drum head is much more sensitive to humidity changes.
- Protect from Splitting and Cracking
- Use on Real Goatskin Bodhrans
- A Must Especially for New Bodhrans
- Very Affordable
- Highly Recommended
- Lasts for Years
- Use 4 Times a Year
- Apply to Top and Bottom of Head
- Do Not Use on Top of Painted Designs
Any good leather conditioner or mink oil cream will do the job. This happens to be the product we use ourselves to maintain our bodhran inventory. It’s very affordable, highly recommended, and will last you for years. Please Note — our availability of specific brands varies from time to time. So we sometimes have more than one brand in inventory, and you could get either one. Whether it’s Kelly’s or Fiebing’s though, we’ve tested them both, and they are both equally excellent.
We recommend that you condition your drum head about 4 times your first year, then at least a couple times per year after that. Pay special attention to your bodhran during the dry winter months, or year-round if you live in a very dry climate. If you notice your bodhran starting to sound high-pitched and “tinny” or “pingy”, it’s time to condition.
Apply leather conditioner cream generously to both the top and underside of your drum head, rubbing in well with a rag or paper towel. You may want to set it aside for an hour or so to let the conditioner soak in, then give it another rubdown.
NOTE — If your bodhran has a painted or silk-screened design on the surface of the head, apply leather conditioner to the underside only. Leather conditioner can damage painted designs.

Excellent product, especially necessary for the regular cleanings I give it with COVID- the conditioner helps keep the head safe and ‘alive’ after cleaning it so much post-performances. The quantity is amazing- I only use a dab on my thumb and that covers the entire head. If I weren’t cleaning my head so much I’d stick to the 4x a year suggestion though!!!!

One of the best products I have found for conditioning my bodhran. Our Mineesota winters are very dry and this product keeps my bodhran in perfect shape.

My bodhran desperately needed this.

I’m not sure if it’s the conditioner or my drum, but I have not been able to permanently loosen the skin on my bodhrán. I’ve put in a lot of conditioner, but as soon as the drum dries, it tightens right back up and continues to make a very high-pitched sound when hit.

Works wonderfully to help smooth, protect, and to me I could hear an improved sound.
