Welsh Medium Weight Great Kilt
Crafted from medium weight (12/13 oz.) premium wool tartan, our Welsh Great Kilt is the perfect blend of heritage and durability. Woven in Wales at 54" wide, this fabric offers a crisp pleat and a beautiful drape—ideal for Highland games, Renaissance fairs, and re-enactments. While it may not be quite as airy as homespun or lightweight tartans, the heavier weight provides structure and warmth, making it an excellent all-around choice for cooler climates or more formal wear.
Each great kilt includes pleating instructions so you can pleat it yourself in traditional style. Want a shortcut? Add Cheater Pleats™ for a pre-sewn option tailored to your measurements. Whether you’re channeling ancient warriors or showing off your Celtic pride, this great kilt makes a bold, authentic statement.

What is a Great Kilt?
The Great Kilt (or féileadh mòr) is the classic, full-length historical Highland garment most people picture when they think of early Scottish dress.
- Traditionally made from double-width tartan fabric (about 54–60 inches wide).
- Consists of 4-8 yards of material, pleated by hand each time it’s worn.
**choose optional Cheater Pleats for easy wear - The extra fabric above the belt can be draped over the shoulder, used as a hood, wrapped as a cloak, or even as a blanket.
- Provides warmth, protection, and a dramatic appearance, making it ideal for reenactments, Renaissance fairs, and traditional Highland events.
- Heavier and bulkier than an Ancient Kilt or Phillabeg, but with unmatched versatility.
