What Makes It “Ancient”?
The Ancient Kilt is essentially a Phillabeg with 2–3 extra yards of tartan attached, used as a built-in fly plaid. Unlike a Great Kilt, it does not include extra fabric above the belt, making it lighter and easier to wear.
About the Homespun Fabric:
Our homespun tartan is a 55/45 poly/wool blend, woven by hand on traditional looms. It features a looser weave and rustic character, with natural variations like slubs, pulls, and slight imperfections that give it an authentic historical feel. At approximately 9–10 oz., it provides a solid drape without being too heavy.

If you're close to the maximum for a size, consider sizing up for better pleating and comfort.
Pleating Options:
All kilts come with pleating instructions. Add Cheater Pleats™ to have your kilt pre-pleated and ready to wear. Please note: kilts with Cheater Pleats™ are considered custom orders.
