What is a Great Kilt?
The Great Kilt (or féileadh mòr) is the classic, full-length historical Highland garment most people picture when they think of early Scottish dress.
-
Traditionally made from double-width tartan fabric (about 54–60 inches wide).
-
Consists of 6–8 yards of material, pleated by hand each time it’s worn.
**Choose Cheater Pleats for easy wearing -
The extra fabric above the belt can be draped over the shoulder, used as a hood, wrapped as a cloak, or even as a blanket.
-
Provides warmth, protection, and a dramatic appearance, making it ideal for reenactments, Renaissance fairs, and traditional Highland events.
-
Heavier and bulkier than an Ancient Kilt or Phillabeg, but with unmatched versatility.
